RICHARD SLEE IS PRAGMATIC AND SOMEWHAT OF A FATALIST ABOUT THE PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. The speculative thought of 'What If...' has only occurred with any meaning and with a great sense of injustice once in my lifetime: as a child I came to the slow realisation that I was not born to be a future king. This was an early setback and I'm sure has been influential in my republican beliefs in later life. Finally I grew to be relieved and grateful for this early disappointment of not being destined to be the carbuncular prince.
