Touchstone Energy helps electric co-ops build loyalty and educate members about the co-op difference. Business leaders around the country anxiously awaited the second-quarter figures from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), which showshow their company stacks up against competitors. The index is the most widely recognized measurement of consumer satisfaction, and its staff tracks the performance of 190 major companies and government agencies in seven economic sectors and 35 industries-including 29 electric utilities representing more than 75 percent of all residential customers in the U.S. When the results were released in August, Touchstone Energy~(R) Cooperatives, a newcomer to the index, had something to crow about. "Our score, 82, the highest in the nation, was higher than the 29 largest investor-owned utilities in the country, and a full nine points higher than the average score for utilities," says Jim Bausell, Touchstone Energy's chief operating officer. "Our score was matched only by Federal Express. By comparison, Southwest Airlines was the top airline with a score of 74. The top hotels were Hilton and Marriott, both scoring 71."
