JOE FINCH presents a case for action and outlines the latest plans for a Skills Training Workshop for Potters. There is a crisis lurking in the field of British studio pottery. It may not be obvious; Britain's leading potters produce good quality wares for an appreciative market. But will this situation continue? The vast majority of Britain's full time professional potters are over or approaching the recognized retirement age. So where is the new generation of potters? Others successfully followed their time at art school with a period working for an established potter. But today's serious student will find that these established routes to learning the necessary skills have all but disappeared.
