MERGING METHODS

Surprisingly, rapid prototyping, selective laser sintering, computer numeric control and stereo lithography are to be featured in a 'craft' exhibition at the Hub: National Centre for Craft and Design, Sleaford. Interface, a touring exhibition from the Devon Guild of Craftsmen brings together both established and emerging makers from across the globe whose craftwork embraces the digital age. Increasingly over the last 20 years or so digital creative media and computer controlled manufacturing equipment have become more accessible to art and design practitioners. The crafts, due to their historical association with technology, are well placed to exploit the potential of these developments. However this is still considered 'new' practice with only a relatively small but growing group of makers who have tapped into the possibilities.
