Cooper's net income, sales up in 2009

Cooper Tire and Rubber Company returned to profit, reporting net income of US$ 52 million for the year 2009 compared with losses of US$ 219 million in 2008. Annual sales of US$ 2.8 billion for 2009 were down 4% from 2008. Cooper reported a net income of US$ 39 in the fourth quarter ended 31 December 2009, a US$ 183 million improvement from the same period in 2008. The company also experienced a 28% increase in unit sales during the quarter. Net sales were US$ 773 million, up US$137 million (22%) over the prior year.
