To the Editor:We read with interest the article by Inoue et al entitled "Effects of Perfluorocarbon Liquids and Sili-cone Oil on Human Epithelial Cells and Retinal Ganglion Cells." We would like to discuss two issues.First, human retinal pigment epithelial cells (ARPE-19) and retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) were cultured on a 12-well Transwell (Corning Inc., New York, NY) with a pore size of 3 mum, a substantially larger pore size than is commonly used in studies requiring the formation of a fully differentiated cell monolayer, e.g., retinal pigment epithelium cells (typical pore size is 0.45 mum).
