UV curable glossy paints or coatings can offer protection to fouling, particularly if silanes or fluoride materials are incorporated. However, in the long term, these additives can be lost from the surface, thus allowing biofouling of the coating to take place. A composition is described as comprising a UV cured resin layer, which has a fluoride monolayer formed on its surface. The coating also comprises organosilicon molecules, wax powder and oxide nanoparticles.
