General Extrusion Excellence

In Italy it's Brescia, in China, ifs Guangdong, and in I the U.S. it's Youngstown, Ohio. These are the hotbeds of the extrusion industry, where extruders and allied companies, like equipment suppliers, have established industrial centers. Since the 1930s when companies like Youngstown Manufacturing Inc. (YMI) began operations through the 1960s when one-half of all extrusions in the U.S. were produced in the greater Youngstown area, many companies have sprung out of this heartland of American extrusion. In 2002, according to the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC), Ohio still claims the highest number of extrusion presses in any U.S. state, from eight different companies, half of which are in Youngstown. This is where it all started in the U.S. for extruders and this is still today where "fierce independents" like Herb Schuler Sr. of General Extrusions continue to build upon a family legacy of extrusion experience.
