Sudden death due to acute idiopathic giant cell myocarditis

abstract_textpA 34-year-old woman died suddenly and unexpectedly. At autopsy there were no arteriosclerotic lesions in the coronary arteries but gross examination revealed conspicuous areas in the myocardium of the anterior and posterior walls of the left ventricle corresponding histologically to giant cell myocarditis. Although the differentiation between cardiac sarcoidosis and giant cell myocarditis is difficult, no granulomas were detected histologically in other organs. The gross pathology findings in the myocardium due to giant cell myocarditis have to be regarded as an unusual finding in the present case./p/abstract_text
