In most well-established industries, issues with supply-and-demand results in diversification. If the supplier (board-certified surgeons) cannot meet the demand of its customers (patients), then secondary options are often sought. An astronomical rise in cosmetic demand (Figure 2) has shifted the cosmetic surgery landscape. Nowadays, many clinicians performing cosmetic surgery are not board-certified in plastic or cosmetic surgery.3 In 2016, dermatologists performed more cosmetic procedures (48) than plastic surgeons (38).
