Evaluation of physicochemical quality of water sources for ruminants in semi-arid area of Oum El Bouaghi, north-eastern Algeria

Thisstudyaimstoevaluatethephysicochemicalqualityofthewaterfromsomewellsinlivestockfarminginsemi-aridregionofnbsp;OumElBoughi,theirinterpretationandtheireffectsonproduction.OurstudywasconductedonwatersamplesfromdifferentfarmsengagedincattleandsheepintheregionofOumElBouaghi.Thestationsselectedwerechosenbecauseoftheirimportanceinruminantandexclusiveuseofwellwaterforwateringtheanimals.Thewatersampleswereanalyzedduringthesummerseason(JunetoSeptember)of2013.Thestudyincludesphysico-chemicalanalyzesofvariousparametersonthecontrolofwaterqualityinruminantlivestock.TheresultsshowedthatthewaterqualitywouldbesatisfactoryfromtheperspectiveofpH,temperature,salinity,iron,nitrates,freeandtotalchlorineandcanbeconsideredacceptableandissafeforconsumptioninruminants.Whilethetotalhardness,chlorideconcentrationandnitriteexceedstandardsrecommendedforlivestockdrinkingwater.
