Speckle tracking echocardiography: A better method for evaluation of left atrial mechanics?

A recent article by Chen et al. [1] analyzed atrial conduction abnormalities in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopa-thy before and 1 year after alcohol septal ablation. In this well-designed study intra-and interatrial electromechanical delay was measured with the aid of tissue Doppler imaging. The authors determined prolongation of both the intra- and interatrial electromechanical delay with significant improvements following percutaneous transluminal septal myocardial ablation.
