Hanson proposals

Variations of conditions for an extension of time for extraction and exportation of brickearth from Cherry Orchard to Star Lane Brickworks were approved for Hanson Brick Ltd by Essex CC in April. Brickearth extraction and manufacture is a local industry in the Great Wakering and Rochford areas with brickworks at Cherry Orchard and Star Lane respectively. Since the early 1990s production has been consolidated between the two sites due to low sales. In 1995 production was transferred to Star Lane Brickworks to use the modern production line. Cherry Orchard Brickworks was temporarily closed and restoration details were being sought. The extraction of brickearth was further consolidated at both sites including the exportation of brickearth from Cherry Orchard to stockpiles at Star Lane for brick manufacture in 1998 and 1999.
