Code Ann. § 1509.27, and a statute for unit operation of a pool or part thereof, which is commonly known as the "forced unitization statute,"id. § 1509.28. Priorto the recent development of Utica/Point Pleasant Shale in Ohio, only a handful of orders were issued pursuant to the forced unitization statute. However, due to the stringent requirements set forth in section 1509.27, over the past four years operators in the Utica/Point Pleasant Shale have turned to the forced unitization statute when they cannot get all of the landowners in a proposed drilling unit to lease voluntarily.
