Another aluminium producer which attracted some negative press earlier this year was the Russian downstream processor UC Rusal when it was reported that its chief executive - billionaire Oleg Deripaska - was partly paying for an environmental initiative put in place by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. Entitled Breaking the Climate Deadlock, Blair's manifesto focuses on the need for governments to fund the development of new technologies which will, in one cynic's words, allow the continuation of industrial pollution.
