Modernization of the hot strip mills of Thyssen Stahl AG

Changes in the product range, increased productivity and quality, and reductions in costs were the objectives of the recent modernization measures carried out on Thyssen Stahl AG's hot strip mills in Bruckhausen and Beeckerwerth from 1989 to 1994. These measures included the full automation of the Bruckhausen hot strip mill and the upgrading of the process computer system in the Beeckerwerth hot strip mill. The roughing train in Beeckerwerth also received a new slab sizing press and a new reversing stand. The upgraded CVC technology in the finishing train enables profile and flatness as well as contour and flatness control to support schedule-free rolling. The operating results have shown a clear improvement in hot strip profile and flatness. The implemented measures have made possible more flexible program compilation.
