Time behaviour of the spectral properties of dye lasers

The spectral narrowing that occurs in the build-up regime of lasers with strongly homogeneously broadened emission lines, is studied numerically in the dye laser case. It turns out that in the first stage (up to a few nanoseconds, depending on the pumping power) this narrowing process is rather rapid, reducing the linewidth by a factor of about five, while it becomes slower and slower during further evolution.
