This column usually seeks to flavour discussions about our favourite plants with a touch of levity. But every now and then gossip impinges on a more serious matter. So I have to record here the sad death of Lindsey Deaves on May 29th. Lindsey was an occasional writer in this publication; she was a dependable supporter of the Exchange Scheme; and she swapped plants with, or donated them to, an ever-expanding number of internet friends. She did not drive, so most of us would only have met her at Banstead. Her enthusiasms followed one upon the other with rapidity. I exchanged Ceropegias, Lithops and Stomatiums with her; Haworthias, and her latest craze, Adromischus, interested me less. In our hobby, kindness and generosity are normal, but Lindsey was special and I shall always treasure the support that she, unwell herself, gave my late wife.
