Crystal growth and electrohyphen;optical characterization of bismuth trihyphen;iodide

The purification and growth of BiI3crystals from the vapor phase and some electrohyphen;optical characterization measurements are described. The sublimed boules had large singlehyphen;crystalline pieces which could be cleaved to give areas of about 1 cm in diameter and about 1 mm in thickness. The complex index of refraction evaluated at a wavelength of 1 mgr;m isNequals; 3.13minus;i(3.2times;10minus;5).
