Doctors, surgeons and healthcare practitioners are increasingly calling for medical technology (medtech) original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to address problems with the battery life of implantable medical devices (IMDs). Key concerns include the risk of infection for patients needing to undergo frequent surgery to replace batteries and a need for battery life to be raised to a minimum of 25 years alongside calls for the industry to incentivise longer product development lifecycles (PDLCs).
