Australian producers seize on Turkey's met import market

AUSTRALIAN metallurgical COAL producers managed to further grow their share of the Turkish import market in January-August, surpassing the United States (US) as the dominant supplier, according to Turkish government data. Turkey imported a total of 3.30 mt of met coal in January-August, down 8 from 3.59 mt in the same period of 2014. However, Australia's share of the market jumped to 38 with supplies of 1.25 mt in the first eight months of this year, more than double the full-year 2014 total of 0.52 mt. This is partly a result of a surge in August, when Australia shipped 0.32 mt to Turkey.
