Bins bugged by a Government that is intent on spying on every aspect of our lives; waste putrefying in the heat, with irate householders gathering in the streets to protest against alternate week collections; the failure of a council to prosecute successfully an alleged persistent non-recycler. This summer the national press has had a field day reporting on the perceived difficulties dogging the waste management and recycling industry, which has culminated in a picture of public dissatisfaction and big brother-style intervention. But away from the media circus, how far is the public prepared to go when it comes to recycling and how far do local authorities want to push them to get results?
