Demand remains the same as last month, with prices for clear glass at 34 pounds/torme. Traders report a slight dip in the overall amount of material available, following the reported reduction in household waste (MRW, 26 March), which has been attributed to tighter spending. "The credit crunch is starting to come through and people are realigning their budgets," one trader commented. But another said the effects could not yet be seen in tonnage terms and that the relatively small percentage of glass exported is not seeing much movement. A clearer idea about domestic and export glass movement is expected by July.
