The plural-component polyurea-hybrid coating technology used in this project can provide a quick and cost effective method to rehabilitate the exteriors of metal roofs in lieu of more costly and disruptive replacement. The procedures for setup and application of this coating are more difficult than those required for standard spray-on or brush-on coatings. The coating material requires special application equipment and training, and is very sensitive to moisture. Proper application requires special mixing, handling, and storage controls. The resulting coating is a very high build, fast cure, 90 to 100 percent solids, tough elasto-meric membrane that does not use or emit solvents. On structurally sound existing roofs having corrosion and water intrusion, the polyurea-hybrid coating is expected to extend the service life of the roof by providing a moisture impermeable spray-on membrane that will effectively seal the surface defects such as pinholes, seam leaks, etc. A 15- or 20-year coating warranty from the manufacturer and the applicator can be obtained for coatings applied by approved applicators.
