This book is aptly named:it is a well organized,well written presentation of the essentials of carbohydrate chemistry and their relationship to biochemistry.The author,Thisbe Lindhorst,introduces concepts in a logical way.She targets the non-carbohydrate or aspiring carbohydrate chemist.Lindhorst writes in an easy to read,concise,matter-of-fact writing style that suits the goal and target audience.Though a background in organic chemistry is a necessity to appreciate fully the material,the concepts are presented in a very general way and illustrated with very specific examples.The author revised and updated the book with some recent innovations in the field,adding,for example,mass spectroscopy to the chapter on structure determination.
