Amorphous Nd-Fe-Co-Ga-B melt-spun ribbons were consolidated into bulk materials by the spark plasma sintering method. The resultant bulk materials were amorphous when the ribbons were consolidated below the crystallization temperature. On the other hand, the bulk materials consisted of the Nd2Fe14B phase when the ribbons were consolidated just above the crystallization temperature. The resultant magnets had high coercivities but were magnetically isotropic. Alignment of the Nd2Fe14B phase in the bulk materials was achieved by increasing the applied pressure. The resultant anisotropic magnets exhibited a high remanence of 12 kG and a high coercivity of 15 kOe. (c) 2005 American Institute of Physics.
