The switch to a new design of milling insert certainly proved to be a profitable move for Southam-based precision machinist Folly Mill Engineering, because the new tooling has not only cut cycle times by 26% when face-milling pump bearing housings, but is also machining more components per cutting edge. As a result, the company is producing two more components each day, for no extra cost in terms of either machine or operator time.
