Theory of thermal noise upconversion in LiIO3and LiNbO3crystals

A theory of upconversion of blackbody radiation is presented. Thermal noise contributions from the background as well as from the up conversion crystal are considered. The effects of Poyntinghyphen;vector walkoff, diffraction, and focusing are discussed. Experimental verification of some aspects of the theory is reported.
