Ast-ana—CompactGTL, a specialist gas-to-liquids (GTL) company, has concluded agreements with a consortium of investors for an investment of $50-itiilhon that will allow the company to proceed with its recently announced plan to build the world's first small scale commercial GTL plant in Kazakhstan (PCN, 7 Apr 2014, p 2). CompactGTL and the Kazakhstan Minister of Oil Gas earlier this year signed a memorandum of cooperation for the development and implementation of the project. The plant will use up to 820,000 cubic meters of associated gas, which might otherwise have been wasted, to produce about 3,000 b/d of synthetic diesel. Production is expected to begin in 2017.
