VIVAPUR8 MCG is composed of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), co-processed with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) as dispersing agent. To activate MCG a high shear force treatment is mandatory. During this high shear treatment the insoluble cellulose fibrils are dispersed and form a three-dimensional network immediately after the shearing stops. This network is stabilized by physical interaction of overlapping cellulose fibrils. The insolubility of cellulose fibrils imparts a good stability against variations of pH, ions and temperature. At the same time, the handling of MCG is extremely convenient: easy dispersion and activation. After successful activation the gel shows thixotropic behavior. It will become less viscous while shearing and return to thegel state in stationary phase. This behavior is beneficial for the pumpability of a product.
