摘要

STAPLE length is a direct measure of rate of wool growth. Hence, for wool-growers who are productivity-oriented, there should never be any reason to place limits on staple length. Growers have tended to produce wool to conform to demand from the wooltrade. Therefore, demand tends to be based around the average types which are in most common supply, rather than those wools of the longer stapled variety, where the most productive fleeces come from. The wool trade imposes penalties for wools which areconsidered overlong for their type, which makes woolgrowers wary of excess staple length. This is an untenable situation for the woolgrower who needs to run the most productive sheep to stay in business.
