In which our monthly contracting contributor Nick Hilton of Wood wise Forestry finds how and why the first Earl of Chichester dropped a brick! Sadly I'm old enough to remember a chart hit from 1975 called 'Whispering Grass'by Windsor Davies and Don Estelle from the TV programme. 'It 'aint half hot mum'. No I didn't buy it, but the chorus went something like, 'whispering grass don't tell the trees 'cause the trees don't need to know'. On the face of it an odd statement really, but it seems to me thatthe trees know a lot more than we give them credit for. That leads me on to that oft-heard saying: 'If onl the trees could talk'. Another slightly odd statement as, although they aren't exactly conversational, it's surprising what they do tell us.
