The US Department of the Interior is opening its call for nominations and comments for a pending lease sale for Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve. The bid for input, which the department plans to publish in the Aug. 7 Federal Register, marks an early step for opening up new territory to onshore oil and gas drilling. The announcement asks for “nominations and comments on all unleased tracts ... including tracts currently unavailable for leasing” under a decision from the Obama administration.
