The US Department of the Interior is launching a probe into phone calls Secretary Ryan Zinke reportedly made conveying Alaska’s priorities could be in jeopardy with the Trump administration. Alaska has a fair amount on the table now, including the possibility of opening new territory in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and National Petroleum Reserves, for which the Trump administration has indicated strong support (related). But last week, Zinke made headlines over calls to US Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, both Republicans, following Murkowski’s “no” vote to proceed on the health care repeal. According to the Alaska Dispatch News, Sullivan said Zinke conveyed a “troubling message."
