Brussels—Petrochemicals production in the European Union (EU) continued to contract in March 2014, down 7.7 compared with March 2013, according to the newly released Cefic Chemicals Trend Report covering the first quarter of 2014. This steep drop was partially offset by a 6.5 increase in output of specialty chemicals and a 5.6 surge in basic inorganics, Cefic notes. Polymers grew by 1.3 year-on-year, while consumer chemicals output rose 0.3.
