The Haynesville Shale in Louisiana and East Texas, once little more than a blip on companies' radar, is rapidly vying to become the most successful new onshore play of 2008, withsome analysts and industry officials believing its economics could surpass even that of the hugely successful Barnett Shale of North Texas.Analyst Brian Singer with Goldman Sachs said the emergence of the Haynesville Shale, coupled with additional growth in other unconventional plays, could usher in "natural gas Independence Day," with the US gas markets potentially becoming self-sufficient for years to come.
