Poris-Total plans to invest about $1.5-billion at its Antwerp, Belgium, refining and petrochemical complex, with some of that amount targeted for petrochemicals, according to a Reuters report citing Patrick Pouyanne, head of the company's refining and petrochemical operations. Among Total's plans is a switch to gas flared in the refinery from oil-based naphtha for the production of petrochemicals in Antwerp. The company also plans to maintain the capacity of its 350,000-b/d Antwerp refinery, but will begin to produce more diesel and less heavy fuel.
