Together with the US Department of Energy (DOE), Mexican company Nemak of Garcia in the state of Nuevo Leon and FCA US LLC of Auburn Hills, Michigan, are combining their expertise to create lightweight powertrain materials to support the automotive industry reach its target of 54.5 mpg by 2025. Based at DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oak Ridge in Tennessee, the project forms part of a new initiative from DOE's Vehicle Technologies Office to develop an affordable, high-strength aluminium casting alloy.
