Fives provides services in aeraulics for aluminium smelters

For several decades, Fives has been supplying pioneering technologies to treat emissions in aluminium smelters with high amperage pots. These technologies include Gas Treatment Centres (GTCs), Fume Treatment Centres (FTCs) and Pitch Fume Treatment Systems (PFTSs). Nowadays, modern smelters have specific requirements, including a huge gas volume to be processed (sometimes more than 2 million m~3/h in latest generation GTCs) through a ductwork which can be up to 1.5 km long. Such ducts can be up to eight metres in diameter. Thus aeraulics are at the heart of the design of today's aluminium smelters 1. This includes achieving an optimal flow balancing at electrolysis pots outlet and at each filter, as well as ensuring a good operation of exhaust fans. These factors are essential to achieve an optimal level of performance.
