INDIA: The Fertilizer Department has announced a subsidy level equivalent to $350/mt CFR for standard MOP for the next financial year, down from $370/mt this year. The announcement on November 19 came just over a week before talks between producers and importers about next year’s price are due to begin at the FAI annual seminar in New Delhi on November 29-December 1. The move is widely seen as a signal from the government that India will resist price increases recently introduced by the producers which have taken levels in Southeast Asia to above $400/mt CFR. In the first quarter of this year, when the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) was introduced, the price was set close to the level of the international market at the time.
