Ineos/Solvay Chlorvinyls JV Cleared Subject to Divestment Conditions

Brussels—The European Commission (EC), following an in-depth investigation, has approved the proposed combination of Ineos and Solvay's chlorvinyls businesses into a new joint venture, with the condition that certain polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plants and related assets owned by Ineos be divested (PCN, 17 Mar 2014, p1). The assets to be divested include the membrane chlorine, the ethylene dichloride (EDC) and vinyl chloride (VCM) plants at Tessenderlo, Belgium; the PVC facility at Mazingarbe, France; the PVC plant at Beek, the Netherlands; the PVC and VCM plants at Wilhelmshaven, Germany, and the EDC units at Runcorn, UK.
