Kokomo Grain Turns 60

Kokomo Grain Co. Inc. has been a 1950, in Kokomo, IN, and its present family-owned business since its found- ownership by the Ortman family dates ing as Kokomo Grain and Feed Co. in to 1970. Like his company, Raymond (Mick) Ortman is a native of Kokomo. A 1951 graduate of Purdue University, with a bachelor s degree in agricultural economics, Ortman served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he joined Kokomo Grain in 1953 and rose through the ranks. At the time, the company operated a 12,000-bushel grain elevator serving grain, feed, and fertilizer customers.
