For all the ups and downs both the economy and the industry has seen over the past few years, there's little doubt that consumers are still willing to spend on doors, windows and other home improvements. Among older people, in particular, there seems to be as much appetite as ever. A recent poll of more than 5,000 over-50s, conducted by Saga Home Insurance, found that eight in 10 had renovated their property, spending £17,000 on average, and that retired people carry out three home improvement projects on average when they give up work. The survey also found that one in eight spent as much as £25,000 and over on home improvement.
