Grand Traverse Butterfly House and Insect Zoo

The Grand Traverse Butterfly House and Insect Zoo held its grand opening on May 9, 2015. This was the culmination of a long and sometimes very difficult effort by a northern Michigan couple, Cyndie Bobier and Robert Roach. Cyndie first became fascinated with insects over 20 years ago when she saw me giving a presentation on insects in Traverse City. Since that time she has earned degrees in zoology and business. Cyndie learned the butterfly house business as an intern at the butterfly house on Mackinac Island. Rob's last name was simply a coincidence; he turned out to be the "engineer" of the business, overseeing the design and construction of the facility and displays.
