Over the last decades, the attractiveness of sports has continuously increased, not only within the European population but also within public media At the same time, sports injuries have become more and more common. This is the result of a constantly increasing number of persons performing organized sports within their free time. This trend is also driven by a higher acceptance of risk-combined fun- and trend sports and of sportive non-competitive leisure activities in the people of advanced age. Therefore, sports injuries cannot only be considered as a medical challenge but they are also an economical issue Today, detailed knowledge on typical sports-type associated lesions, adequate diagnostics, modern and meticulous operative procedures and athlete-adapted rehabilitation programs are crucial.
