Aviation consumes 2% of all fossil fuels burnt. Compared to power generation that is not much, but it represents 12% of the fuel consumption of the whole transport sector. According to EU figures a person flying from London to New York and back generates the same level of carbon emissions as an average EU citizen does by heating his home for a year. When emitted high in the troposphere, via jet fuel exhaust, CO2 has a more pronounced greenhouse gas effect.
