Influence of granulation on the pre-reaction behaviour of glass batches

The pre-reaction behaviour, including the variation of density and thermal conductivity of the granulated glass batch, gravimetric and XRD analysis, pre-reaction treatment at temperatures of 775-900°C, and high temperature micro-structure, of granulated soda-lime-silica glass forming hatch (pellets) are investigated. The results show that compared with the traditional loose glass batch, the density and thermal conductivity of the pellets is increased. The changes of temperature and holding time affect the pre-reaction behaviours of the pellets. When the pellets are treated at 850°C for 1 h, over 90% of the dissolution reaction of carbonate and sulphate almost complete. However at that moment, much liquid appears in the samples which may lead to difficulties in subsequent conveying and melting.
