The Dutch paint industry was world news in 2007: two companies played a major role in the world-wide consolidation experienced by the paint industry in that year. SigmaKalon was taken over by the American-based company PPG and Akzo Nobel acquired the British-owned company ICI. After the mergers, the two companies were ranked among the top three in the global coatings market. The Dutch sector is good for a turnover of nearly EUR 1 billion. 2007 was also a special year for the WVF, the Dutch association of the paint and printing ink industry (with 90 members and more than 6,000 employees), with the celebration of its 100th anniversary.
