Each year, it seems that new portable electronics devices become smaller, more multifunctional and require a greater degree of power management. The challenge for IC manufacturers is to develop creative power management solutions that reduce total system cost and minimize board space. For example, at the chip level, many manufacturers are directing their efforts towards reducing power consumption and at the same time enabling portable devices to manage more functions. Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. announced two new high-performance charge pump products which claim to enable designers to build dramatically smaller, more feature-rich mobile handsets. The AAT2846 and AAT2856 are designed to eliminate multiple ICs in space-constrained portable applications.
