Many major RF component suppliers are offering integrated RF front-end modules (FEM), which are rapidly being adopted in today's cell phones. This is due to the fact that handsets do not merely make phone calls anymore; rather they are multimedia systems to be used for taking photos, playing video, games, music, e-mail and surfing the Web. This additional functionality results in less space for the radio front-end, which itself is trending towards increasingly complex multi-band/multi-mode operation.
